Just yesterday I promised more smart buildings insight, and today a new feature from my colleague Georgina Salt appears in the latest issue of Inside Networks.
In it she discusses the key benefits of smart buildings, in a feature on what makes one building smarter than another and how to develop a truly converged infrastructure.

For anyone operating in the infrastructure technology industry, there are two key issues to address when it comes to the environment. The first focuses on efficiencies – particularly data centre efficiency. The industry has responded by ensuring that new servers have lower emissions and use less power, heating and cooling, as well as boasting innovative new software that helps to improve…

Let’s face it, project failure is non-discriminatory. It pretty much affects all sectors in equal measure, but in the IT and telecoms industry the statistics are particularly grim. The Chaos Report by the Standish Group reported a 70 per cent failure rate for IT projects, which is even more alarming when you consider that its definition of failure is 100 per cent overrun on time or budget.

Matt Salter, Delivery Director, has answered a few quick questions about how technology is developing to solve two of the most fundamental challenges in maximising computing density: power and cooling.
Why is cooling technology important for a high density data centre?
At the end of the day a focus on high-density hardware means a lot more heat is generated…
