Redstone joins G-Cloud framework
Monday 20, February 2012
Redstone announces its successful inclusion on the G-cloud framework – a new government initiative to allow the public sector to more easily procure cloud services.
Redstone applied for three lots in the initiative – Lot 1: Infrastructure (IaaS) Services, Lot 3: Software as a Service (SaaS) and Lot 4: Specialist Cloud Services – and was approved for all three.
Redstone will now feature in the Government Cloudstore – a marketplace of cloud services.
“This accreditation is another important part of our delivery of cloud services,” said John Roberts, head of managed services at Redstone. “From being the first VMware vCloud partner in the UK to the recent opening of our new Hertfordshire data centre, we are making significant investment to ensure our cloud services are industry leading.”
Roberts explained how Redstone was well placed to help organisations with adoption of the cloud through its complete end to end solutions. “It’s important that the network is ready for the adoption of the cloud, and that connectivity is up to the task. Redstone can help ensure all parts work properly so that cloud adoption is a success and organisations achieve maximum return on their investment. “
The government outlined its vision in the Government Cloud Strategy Report: “by adopting cloud computing, the government will be able to more easily exploit and share commodity ICT products and services. This enables the move from high-cost customised ICT applications and solutions to low cost, standard, interchangeable services where quality and cost is driven by the market.”
Speaking of the importance of cloud services Mark O'Neill, proposition director for innovation and delivery at the Government Digital Service (GDS), told attendees at the Cloud Expo event: "The billions which we spend on IT is fundamentally changing because too much goes on systems that are unacceptable. Cloud can disaggregate systems and to do things differently and dramatically cheaper."
