IP CCTV
Versatile and cost-effective visibility with CCTV over IP
Running CCTV systems over the IP network offers a number of benefits in terms of extra features and cost reduction. In particular systems can be altered and managed with greater ease and flexibility than traditional analogue systems.
Camera installation flexibility
Traditional CCTV can require the installation of three lines to each camera (the video feed, power and control) but IP CCTV requires just one. As well as reducing the complexity and cost of installation, this also offers flexibility in the types and placement of cameras.
- No separate power required. Through Power over Ethernet (PoE), the CCTV cameras can draw their power from the network – completely eliminating the need for separate power lines to be run to every camera.
- Wireless cameras. If you have power but a network point is not readily available, then a wireless camera can use the existing wireless infrastructure to deliver new CCTV coverage.
- Easy expansion. New or relocated cameras don't need a cable running to a control room; all they need is access to your IT network, allowing for fast and easy CCTV expansion.
Efficient security monitoring
It's important for your staff to be aware of security incidents as they happen, and to be able to get the information they need quickly and easily. IP CCTV enables your security staff to react fast.
- Event based alerts. If an alarmed door is opened, or a panic button pushed, IP CCTV cameras can automatically focus on the event. This allows for staff to immediately see the situation as it unfolds and ensures a recording is made.
- Easy retrieval. Instantly access CCTV footage from any camera at any time. There's no need to hunt around for physical media. Retrieval can be as easy as specifying a time window to recall the video, or selecting a recording from the event log.
- Faster response. If integrated with an RFID asset tracking system, camera operators can react to an event then immediately know which other security staff are closest to the event.
More cost effective than analogue CCTV
As IP CCTV utilises existing network infrastructure, it is more cost effective than traditional CCTV systems.
- No proprietary cabling. As IP CCTV cameras can use your existing cabling or wireless network, there's no need to install custom cabling to each camera.
- No propriety control rooms. CCTV can be viewed from any computer (or even an iPad) connected to the network.
- Greater quality, less cameras. With HD IP CCTV cameras greater detail can be recorded. HD cameras can record around 30 times more detail than a traditional camera, reducing the need for as many cameras to cover your facilities.
- Control rooms wherever you need them. One control room can monitor multiple facilities, even if they are situated in different locations around the world. This can allow for cost reduction and great flexibility in terms of coverage.
